Maryam Farooq currently serves as the executive director for NYAI (New York Artificial Intelligence). She founded the group in May 2017, and has been running AI events since January 2016.
Maryam has served as the New York Managing Director and the Global Director of Client Experience (Business Development) for Machine Colony (now defunct), a company that worked with governments and large enterprises to help them adopt AI at scale. Prior to Machine Colony, Maryam worked for several tech start-ups focusing on business development, product consulting, account management, or special projects.
Maryam is passionate about supporting charitable organizations with a focus on education, and currently volunteers as the Development and Marketing Strategist for the Foundation of Education in Honduras. She has been a figure skating instructor for Figure Skating in Harlem, as well as a tutor for KIPP NYC. Maryam graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May 2011 with a B.A. in Economics.
She is an animal lover, a native New Yorker, and is deeply interested in understanding emerging technologies for social good, permaculture & sustainability design, traveling and finding new ways to foster connections with fellow humans.
